Wanita Jana Rezeki

Empowering Women to Generate Sustainable Income

Driving Community Growth Through Women-Led Initiatives

PWDC’s Wanita Jana Rezeki initiative is designed to support and uplift women, especially at the community level, through income-generating opportunities, entrepreneurship development, and capacity-building.
Since its inception, the programme has evolved into a holistic empowerment initiative that not only provides financial assistance, but also strengthens skills, networks, and long-term self-sufficiency for women in Penang.

Programme Evolution

2020 to 2022
2020 to 2022

Financial Assistance for Micro-Entrepreneurs

In its initial phase, Wanita Jana Rezeki focused on providing small grants to women involved in food-based businesses and services such as home cooking and tailoring. A total of 29 women entrepreneurs received RM1,000 each in financial support. This provided them with a critical foundation to stabilise and grow their ventures.

Skills Development Through Strategic Partnerships

In 2023, the programme expanded to include structured training in culinary and confinement services. PWDC partnered with UiTM Penang Branch, including both the Permatang Pauh and Bertam Campuses, to deliver these skills development courses. A total of 20 women entrepreneurs benefited from the training, enabling them to improve service quality and enhance their earning potential.

Community-Based Empowerment with JPWK

In 2024, Wanita Jana Rezeki introduced a new focus by involving members of the Jawatankuasa Pembangunan Wanita dan Keluarga (JPWK). This phase aims to train JPWK leaders to design and implement income-generating programmes for grassroots women in their own communities.

The initiative also builds the leadership and project management capacity of JPWK members, helping them to execute community-based initiatives more effectively. By empowering JPWK leaders, the programme contributes to the creation of support systems, stronger networks, and broader access to economic opportunities, ultimately enhancing the well-being of women and families throughout Penang.
